SuperSmackDown LIVE

Several times in 2012, WWE transformed SmackDown into a blockbuster live event on Tuesday night, better known as SuperSmackDown LIVE.

This squared circle extravaganza would break new ground and showcase the blue brand at its best time-and-time again. Sometimes, the show aired as specially themed events like “Blast from the Past” — featuring a slew of WWE Hall of Famers and Legends that included “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Sergeant Slaughter and Jimmy “Mouth of the South” Hart — or “The Great American Bash” — which included a 20-Man Battle Royal featuring the likes of John Cena, CM Punk, Big Show and Kane.

In November, the crown jewel of this event would air, as WWE brought SuperSmackDown LIVE to the United Kingdom for the first time.

The Brogue Kick is banned

After personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, suffered an injury as a result of being Brogue Kicked by The Celtic Warrior on Raw, Alberto Del Rio and his legal representation, David Otunga, set the wheels in motion for what would be among one of the most controversial rulings by a General Manager in 2012.

After they presented a high-pressure case to SmackDown GM Booker T, the leader of SmackDown opted to ban The Celtic Warrior’s signature move temporarily, just nine days before Del Rio would challenge him for the title at Night of Champions.

The ruling set a dangerous precedent and left many in the WWE Universe wondering what other moves might be deemed illegal in the future.
