Spoiler: Stipulation Revealed For Title Match At WWE’s Battleground Pay-Per-View

During a backstage segment with Triple H and Vickie Guerrero at last night’s WWE SmackDown tapings, it was announced that Rob Van Dam vs. Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Title at Battleground will be fought under Hardcore Rules.

WWE Battleground 2013: Rob Van Dam-Alberto Del Rio Will Be Best Title Match

The WWE’s newest pay-per-view, Battleground, will be headlined by rematches from last month’s Night of Champions for the World Heavyweight Championship and the now vacant WWE Championship.

Rob Van Dam will challenge again for the World Heavyweight Championship against current champion Alberto Del Rio with the added stipulation of the match being contested under hardcore rules, a favorite of the former ECW alumni.

On the other hand, former WWE Champions Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton will battle it out for the second straight pay-per-view main event to determine a new champion after COO Triple H vacated the title on Raw.

The World Heavyweight Championship match, not the previously mentioned WWE Championship match, will be the show stealing title match on the Battleground pay-per-view on October 6th.

It might be unwise to pick against pro wrestling’s hottest superstar since the summer of CM Punk in 2011, but it makes sense to pick the RVD/ADR match as the possible best match of the night.

The conclusion of the Orton-Bryan title match will likely feature an ending that will help continue the storyline until the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view where the feud will likely be wrapped up inside Hell in a Cell. With an ending that forwards the feud between the two superstars, there might be fans that find the match not as good no matter how epic of a match.

On the other hand, the hardcore match between Van Dam and Del Rio at Battleground could very well be the blow off to the feud between the two superstars as Del Rio feuds have been relatively short this year.

You should expect some big spots in this match as the typical hardcore match goodies will be brought out from under the ring like chairs, kendo sticks and maybe a ladder for a huge Five Star Frog Splash.

Outside of RVD’s experience in hardcore matches from his time in ECW, there also needs to be credit given to Del Rio after performing great in recent stipulation matches like his Last Man Standing matches against the Big Show earlier this year.

During Monday Night Raw following Battleground on October 7th, there will likely be more people talking about what happened in the RVD-ADR match than the Orton-Bryan at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

Whichever match you think will steal the show at Battleground in 11 days, there is no argument we’ll be in store for two great championship matches from Buffalo.
