En la actualidad, está grabando la novela el Cachaco y la Costeña, grabada en las ciudades de Santa Marta, Barranquilla y Bogotá, en la que Jorge Enrique interpreta a Antonio Andrade, un cachaco serio preocupado por su trabajo que tiene una relación con Sofía (Amada Rosa Pérez) una costeña divertida y muy extrovertida. La relación es muy complicada pues ambos tienen unas vidas muy distintas.

El 10 de septiembre de este año 2003, Jorge Enrique Abello fue nombrado “Amigo de Unicef” de manos del sr. Manuel Manriquez (representante de Unicef para Colombia y Venezuela), como un reconocimiento a su trabajo en favor de los niños, niñas y adolescentes colombianos. Jorge Enrique fue la imagen de una campaña realizada durante el mes de septiembre identificando el evento social más importante del año en Bogotá. Se unieron marcas muy reconocidas para una obra benéfica en la que se recogieron fondos para los niños victimas de la guerra. El escenario fue Unicentro. Como Jorge Enrique Abelloha sido nombrado amigo de la UNICEF ,se hara partícipe de ayudar en los programas que se elaborarán en todo el País (Colombia) con motivo de las fiesta decembrinas ,a lo que la producción de libros,lapices ,peluches,agendas ,calendarios entre otros que seran destinados a“Pastoral de la primera infancia”que es un proyecto que ayuda alas comunidades probres para reducir la mortalidad infantil y,a la prevención de enfermedades y desnutrición, a la promoción de los Derechos de los Niños y colabora en campañas contra la violencia introfamilia -“Es un honor que Vd. tambien lo puede tener, si abre sus sentidos, si se deja tocar y entiende que el presente y el futuro de Colombia está en sus manos.Colaborando con Unicef salvará vidas” - dijo el actor para llamar a la solidaridad de la gente con esta campaña.

“Otra faceta bastante desconocida de Jorge Enrique es la de escritor”,vocación que, como explicó en una entrevista, se le habia despertado al leer nuevamente “El Quijote”.
